How To Make The Best Use Of A Prayer Journal

Throughout the years I have always liked to keep and write reflections in notebooks. I never had a diary, but I have been writing about special moments and not so good throughout my life. Several years ago I decided to buy a few notebooks to write down my prayers, among other things. Understanding that it is necessary to keep a record of those constant prayers in which we wait patiently for a response from God.  Today, I want to share with you how we can (according to my experience) make the best use of a prayer journal.

How to make the best use of a prayer journal

First, one of the best uses we can give a prayer journal is to keep a record of our prayers. When we set our hearts to pray sometimes for multiple requests, we can forget what we have prayed for. Writing our prayers is the first thing we should do.

Second, maintaining a record of answered prayers is one of the uses for our prayer journal. Many times we are in public places, in the church or any other place and because there are no limits to God, He can speak to us and answer our prayers at any moment. We must write it down.

If you are a prayer person, you have already experienced the request of prayers from others around you. In my prayer journal, I have a section where I write down those prayer requests that people make me daily.  So I do not forget any of them as I’m compromising myself to pray for them.

Also, we can take in our prayer journal those victories that God has given us through prayer. We can include a section of worship, praise and give thanks to God for all of them.

All of these methods or practices have helped me to make good and best use of my prayer journal. I’m still learning in the process. This is not about perfection but about a relationship with God.

Live Free and Serving God – Week 3

Live Free and Serving God

Hello! We are in our third week studying in depth the theme of freedom through the word. During the first week we were talking about how God has called us to be free in Him. We were also learning some tips about how we can memorize the word of God to be recorded in our hearts. Today, in our third week we will be talking about the verse in 1 Peter 2:16 and how we should use our freedom granted by God.

Live Free and Serving God

1 Peter 2:16 says the following:

Live like free people, but don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Live as those who are serving God.

We know what freedom means for those who have been saved by grace.  God sent his only Son to give His life for us, to make us free from sin.  Now, Once we have been rescued and redeemed by the sacrifice of Jesus and His blood shed on the cross, what is it for us to do with that freedom?

The word teaches us that we should NOT use our freedom as an excuse to do wrong. On the contrary, we must use that freedom to serve God in a good way, willingly and passionately. We are exhorted to use our freedom wisely.

To use our freedom wisely implies that we must submit ourselves under the powerful hand of God and in obedience to do His will. Therefore, our freedom should not be used to rebel against God. We are freed from sin, but say the word that we are servants of God. Before we were ruled by sin and the enemy of souls, but now we are ruled by God.

Live Free and Serving God 2

What does it mean to be a servant of God?

The word records in Isaiah 42: 1-4 that God choose a servant in whom his Spirit would dwell and who would bring to this world a true judgment. Thus the verses say:

“Here is my servant,
the one I support.
He is the one I have chosen,
and I am very pleased with him.
I have filled him with my Spirit,
and he will bring justice to the nations.
He will not cry out or shout
or try to make himself heard in the streets.
He will not break even a crushed reed.
He will not put out even the weakest flame.
He will bring true justice.
He will not grow weak or give up
until he has brought justice to the world.
And people in faraway places will hope to receive his teachings.”

We are also servants of God here on earth. If we are free by grace, then we can do right doing good works as God expects of us. Says Colossians 3: 23-24,  In all the work you are given, do the best you can. Work as though you are working for the Lord, not any earthly master. Remember that you will receive your reward from the Lord, who will give you what he promised his people. Yes, you are serving Christ. He is your real Master.

Isn’t that amazing? Christ is our real Master, and we are serving Him now! Live like free people, doing good works!

Knowing the Purpose of Bible Journaling

Knowing the Purpose of Bible Journaling

When I started practicing bible journaling I did not even know how to start. I felt a bit weird when using my bible to color, draw and paint. Maybe you’re going through the same thing. However, I gave myself the task of seeking information and knowing the primary purpose for bible journaling.

While I had my moments studying the bible, I always had the habit of writing my bible, of making small drawings and of marking it. But I never thought it would come to this. And it is really fascinating what we can do and the creativity that can emerge in us if we do it with the real purpose.  Yes! The bible journaling has a particular purpose and today we are going to discover it.

Knowing the Purpose of Bible Journaling

  • To get closer!

Approaching God every day should be our main purpose while practicing Bible journaling. If we go with this in mind, surely we will have a supernatural experience with God in His presence. Our approach should always be “looking for His face” and not looking for the materials with which we are going to use.

  • Deepen the word!

Our second purpose must be to seek deeper in the Word of God. The Bible says in Psalm 119: 105:

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

The word of God guides our way, so going deeper in the word will help us in our daily lives and give us firmness in our spiritual life.

Knowing the Purpose of Bible Journaling 2

  • Help in prayer!

I believe that when we set our hearts to fill ourselves with the word of God we will have words in our mouths to pray, intercede and cry out to God for others. Prayer is a key that opens doors in our life. And while something of creativity comes into our mind, we must take the word into consideration to pray first.  As says in Psalm 54:2

Hear my prayer, O God;
Listen to the words of my mouth.

  • Get creative!

After we have read, deepened and prayed, I am 100% sure that your creativity will surface in such a way that you can clearly represent what you have understood or what God has whispered in your heart.  God is our creator, God IS the creator of the heavens and the earth. Our creativity flows from His Spirit.  Genesis 1:1 says: In the beginning God (Elohim) created [by forming from nothing] the heavens and the earth (AMP).

Let your creativity be directed by the Spirit and enjoy every moment in HIS great presence.

Bible Journaling – God’s purposes prevails

Bible Journaling Gods Purposes Prevails

There is something good about knowing that God’s purposes always prevail.  The bible teaches us about the plans and purpose of God with us.  We can feel and live secure about God’s promises to be fulfilled in us, if we do trust Him of course!

Today, I want to share a reflection about the purposes of God and how they prevail in our lives.  As part of our bible journaling challenge this week we are in Ephesians 1:5 that says:

He predestined and lovingly planned for us to be adopted to Himself as [His own] children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the kind intention and good pleasure of His will—

It’s wonderful to know that God wanted us to be adopted by Him as his children.  So, He had a plan for salvation through Jesus Christ.  This verse teaches us that God loves plans.  He always have plans and they are good for us.

For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster to give you a future and a hope.  Jeremiah 29:11

Sometimes we cannot understand God’s plans with us. But we can trust that He has plans for our well-being. Has it happened to you, that you do not understand God’s plans and you begin to distrust what He may be doing in your favor?  It has happened to me. Then we began to despair and even make decisions outside the will of God, simply by not waiting on Him.

So it is important to remember that He already has our plans for our well-being. We may have our own plans, but God’s plans prevail over ours.  This is a relief for me, and gives me so much peace that I can trust in God’s plans for me.  Don’t you think?

Here’s a bible journaling I did while studying and meditating in Ephesians 1:5.Bible Journaling Gods Purposes Prevails2

What did I used in this entry for the challenge?

I used, watercolor paint in yellow, flower washi tape (lots), Illustrated Faith die cuts and colored pencils.  My favorite? It’s the piece that says “I know that plans I have for you”.
