Waiting in the Lord is one of the most difficult things we can do, but it is one of the safest things for us. Perhaps, you have received promises in your life from God and today you are still waiting to receive them. Today I want to talk to you about how we can expect and wait in the Lord and His promises.
How to wait in the Lord and His promises
When we wait on the promises of God, we are waiting for God to move his hand in our behalf. We are waiting to see the fulfillment of his promises in our life. Waiting on God is nothing but patience. And the bible speaks to us about patience. According to the Dictionary of Bible Themes, patience is:
The quality of forbearance and self-control which shows itself particularly in a willingness to wait upon God and his will. Believers are called upon to be patient in their expectations of God’s actions, and in their relationships with one another.
We must be willing to wait patiently in the Lord. But, this is not about how much or little we can wait, but our attitude while we wait. This is the key to how we can expect in God.
The Amplified Bible says in Galatians 5:22 that:
But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Patience is one of the fruit of the Spirit and I love how this version refers to the word. It says, that patience is NOT the ability to wait, BUT HOW WE ACT WHILE WAITING.
How powerful is this! – Sometimes we wait in the Lord, but we wait and complain. Sometimes we wait, but we fight with God. Sometimes we wait, but we forget to put it as a priority in our life. Sometimes we wait, but we completely forget His promises.
If this is how we act while waiting, I do not believe that we can grow and mature in God, much less we are demonstrating that we fully trust His perfect will for us.
The question is: HOW ARE YOU ACTING WHILE YOU WAIT ON GOD?

Oh, attitude! Far too often, my attitude about waiting can be icky. However, I’m learning to praise Jesus even in the waiting. When I do that, I do that, I find myself choosing to be grateful in the waiting, instead of grumpy.

Part of the waiting is learning. Learn to have patience and learn it is in time not ours.

For me, it’s that I forget to care when I am waiting! Which leads to a lack of appreciation, awe, and wonder!
Absolutely love this take on patience!

Such a great reminder! Waiting is so incredibly hard at times, but our focus & what we choose to believe in the waiting makes all the difference. And I’m finding that He has some of the biggest lessons for me while I’m waiting on Him!

Tayrina, what a perfectly lovely way of seeing the period of waiting. Abraham waited and did not see the fulfillment of his promise, but still, he waited.
Daniel did not see the reality of the prophesies he was given yet he waited.
Waiting is the firing kiln that develops patience, don’t you think?

This is a good reminder that I need. There are some things that I am waiting for God to work on my behalf and it is hard. I have been reading and writing Psalm 13 out with my longings as I wait.
