When I started practicing bible journaling I did not even know how to start. I felt a bit weird when using my bible to color, draw and paint. Maybe you’re going through the same thing. However, I gave myself the task of seeking information and knowing the primary purpose for bible journaling.
While I had my moments studying the bible, I always had the habit of writing my bible, of making small drawings and of marking it. But I never thought it would come to this. And it is really fascinating what we can do and the creativity that can emerge in us if we do it with the real purpose. Yes! The bible journaling has a particular purpose and today we are going to discover it.
Knowing the Purpose of Bible Journaling
-
To get closer!
Approaching God every day should be our main purpose while practicing Bible journaling. If we go with this in mind, surely we will have a supernatural experience with God in His presence. Our approach should always be “looking for His face” and not looking for the materials with which we are going to use.
-
Deepen the word!
Our second purpose must be to seek deeper in the Word of God. The Bible says in Psalm 119: 105:
Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
The word of God guides our way, so going deeper in the word will help us in our daily lives and give us firmness in our spiritual life.
-
Help in prayer!
I believe that when we set our hearts to fill ourselves with the word of God we will have words in our mouths to pray, intercede and cry out to God for others. Prayer is a key that opens doors in our life. And while something of creativity comes into our mind, we must take the word into consideration to pray first. As says in Psalm 54:2
Hear my prayer, O God;
Listen to the words of my mouth.
-
Get creative!
After we have read, deepened and prayed, I am 100% sure that your creativity will surface in such a way that you can clearly represent what you have understood or what God has whispered in your heart. God is our creator, God IS the creator of the heavens and the earth. Our creativity flows from His Spirit. Genesis 1:1 says: In the beginning God (Elohim) created [by forming from nothing] the heavens and the earth (AMP).
Let your creativity be directed by the Spirit and enjoy every moment in HIS great presence.

This is awesome. I love creativity and reading the word so it makes sense to do both 🙂 I like what you say about filling ourselves with God’s Word gives us the right words to say when we are praying. I think this also applies to when we are needing to encourage others. We end up speaking words of life, hope, and purpose.

I keep my journal near me not only when I am reading and studying but during sermons. A question will pop into my mind. Mine is full of great stuff and yes even doodles.

You have a beautiful blog! I enjoy bible journaling for all these reasons and one more: it gets my daughters and nieces more connected in the Word. They love illustrating verses with me. It helps his Word take shape and life, coming to life in our real lives as well as we see it on paper more clearly.

These are such true and good reasons. Being creative with His word can deepen our love and understanding about it. I don’t know about you, but I remember the verse I spend an hour drawing out better than the one I just hear in church on Sunday. Also this blog is BEAUTIFUL your branding is on point.
